The idea
The halftone screen is the oldest way to make a photo printable. What happens when the screen is not made of dots but of any shape, even the glyphs of a brand?
What it’s for
An image style that applies to any photo or video: for campaigns, social media series or visual worlds that deliberately step away from the stock photo look.
A tool that translates photos, videos or the webcam feed into a grid of shapes. The brightness of each cell sets the size of the shape. The shape itself can be a dot, a line, a glyph or a custom SVG, for example a logo.
- Four methods: halftone, dither, pixel and ASCII
- Ten basic shapes or your own SVG shapes, also mixed and randomly turned
- Size driven by tone or by position, palettes from newsprint to riso to thermal
- Motion as a wave, a spin or a cycle through the methods
- Export as SVG with every cell editable, as PNG at 4800 px or as video
