Login New information architecture for login.org: young people find their career, taster apprenticeship and apprenticeship in six career worlds.
login.org offers over 35 apprenticeships at SBB, BLS, RhB and other companies. The portal showed everything and guided no one: the UX audit in February 2026 found ten items in the main navigation, and young people, parents and companies in the same menu.

The 35 careers sat in just three groups, with over 20 in “Technology and IT” alone. The career check sat two levels deep.

Young people search by intent, not by school year
Insight
Finding an apprenticeship has three phases: discover, try out, apply. The school year says little about what someone needs right now. So the new sitemap is organised around these three intents. Parents, teachers and companies get their own areas in the menu instead of crowding the navigation for young people.

Six worlds instead of three drawers
Career worlds
Several variants between the existing structure and search terms led to six career worlds: construction and crafts, electrical and buildings, technology and mechanics, IT and design, customers and office, logistics and transport. Each world has its own colour; red remains the colour of login.

Two questions first, the rest when needed

What are you looking for: a taster apprenticeship, an apprenticeship or an internship? And where, as a career, place or company? That is all it takes to start. Field, canton, company and level sit under “More criteria” and stay closed until someone needs them.

What doesn’t fit should be visible before applying
Career page
login’s application centre collected why applications fail: minimum age, language level, missing school reports, and confusing a taster day with a taster apprenticeship. The career page therefore leads from the video through tasks and training path straight to taster places and apprenticeships. Requirements such as the language level sit right at the top with the key facts.
Tested by the people it is for
Test
We tested a clickable prototype on a smartphone with school students: 45 minutes, thinking aloud, three tasks. Find a career, plan a taster apprenticeship, look for an apprenticeship in Zurich. We also checked whether “1 day, no feedback” and “1–3 days with feedback” make the difference between a taster day and a taster apprenticeship clear.

From a platform for reading to one for watching
Visual design
The 2019 look, with its 80° slant, three colours and static emojis, no longer carried the new structure. Prototyping showed that young people would rather watch a video than read a long text, and that the animated emojis went down well across the board. What worked stays: bold typography, red as the brand colour and real apprentices instead of stock photos. The slant only lives on in transitions.

The new website is online: three entry points (careers, apprenticeships, taster places), six career worlds on the home page and a dedicated area for parents and teachers. The career check now sits on the home page instead of two levels deep: 18 questions, 7 minutes, used more than 5,000 times according to login.org.
